MDF Sdn Bhd (GMDF) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad, a
company incorporated in Malaysia and listed in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange
(KLSE) main board. Kumpulan
Guthrie Berhad is one of the largest plantation companies in
Malaysia, with over 110,000 hectares planted with oil palm and rubber. Out of
this, 22,842 hectares of land are planted with rubber. While plantations
continue to be the company's core business, it is expanding its base into property
development and manufacturing.Guthrie's
history dates back to the 1820s when the British colonial presence
in South East Asia was making its mark. The Company's involvement
in Malaya in those days began indirectly with the purchase of crops for sale on
the London commodity market. This eventually developed into acquisitions
of rubber and oil palm estates throughout the century. The
turning point for Guthrie took place in 1981, when the company became
a wholly Malaysia owned entity. In
1989 Kumpulan Guthrie became a public listed company with the largest
share offering in Malaysia then. |
